What is the Agency Target???
When you first look at it you think it’s a dart board, but no it’s really our target for us striving to our goals and being the best learners we can be. There are six segments of the agency target, Learning Spaces, Managing and Designing our own Learning, Knowing myself as a Learner, Collaboration, Striving for Excellence and The Learning Pit. There are three stages Red, Orange and Green, Red being guided, Orange being managing self and Green being Empowered Agentic. Learning Spaces is where you make the best decisions for YOUR learning, If you were sitting next to your friends talking about something that has nothing to do with your learning then you should probably move, but if you were red (guided) the teacher would come and remind you that it’s probably not the best for your learning. If you were orange (managing self) you would sit with your friends if you think it’s the best for your learning and that you are talking about your learning not something like deciding what to wear tomorrow. If you were Green (Empowered Agentic) the teacher would trust you to do learning outside without getting distracted by the people around you.
The learning pit is a pit that helps us with our learning and if you fall in The Learning Pit it means that you are are actually learning and thinking really hard about your learning and doing the best you can do to get out of the learning pit. Some people don’t like to fall into the learning because they are scared they are going to fail, so they just walk across the top of the pit and don’t do much learning.
Knowing yourself as a Learner is very important when you are learning in class because you can decide what workshops you need to go to when they going to happen during the week. If you were red (guided) the teacher would help you identify your strengths and weaknesses instead of you discovering them yourself. If you were orange (managing self) you would start discovering your strengths and weaknesses by yourself and it’s better to work them out by yourself because you get in the learning pit and dig yourself out.
Collaboration is about being in a group with people you normally don’t work with. If you were red (guided) you would get into a group of people that you are comfortable working with, but in real life you won’t always work with people you like. If you were orange (managing self) I would get in a group of people for all different reasons, and i would share my ideas and give feedback to the other people in my group. If I was Green (Empowered Agentic)I would ask for some good feedback and give some good feedback to the other people in my group.
Managing and Designing my own Learning is what it says it’s managing and Designing your Learning, if you were red (guided) the teacher would plan your day for you. If you were orange (managing self) you would be learning to plan your own day and following the inquiry process that is needed for your learning. If you were green (empowered agentic)you would be able to plan your day independently and you make the most of your learning time, all the time.
We have the agency target because it helps us with school but it will help you with stuff out of school as well. We are developing the agency because we are year six’s so the teachers are preparing us for Intermediate next year.
Striving for Excellence is a type of learning where you always strive to do your best learning you can do. H.O.M (habits of Mind) is a big role in Striving for Excellence because you use them in your everyday life, if you’re working at an office and you want to impress your boss with a piece of writing you would want it to be one of your best pieces of writing, but really all your pieces of writing should be your best writing, so always strive to your goals and reach for the stars.
